Meal Curate ("we," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
Meal Curate is designed with a privacy-first approach. The vast majority of your data never leaves your device.
Data stored locally on your device:
- Meal plans, recipes, pantry items, and shopping lists
- Nutrition tracking data and dietary preferences
- App settings, theme preferences, and notification preferences
- User profile information (name, dietary goals) that you voluntarily provide
This data is stored using Apple's Core Data framework on your device and, if you enable iCloud Sync, within your personal iCloud account.
2. Third-Party Services & Network Use
Meal Curate does not send your data to any third-party recipe API, analytics service, advertising network, or tracking SDK.
The app makes network requests only in the following limited situations, all initiated by you:
- Recipe import from a URL. When you paste a recipe URL into the app, Meal Curate fetches that page over HTTPS to extract the recipe. The request goes only to the website you chose; we do not log, store, or proxy these requests.
- Curated recipe library sync. The app fetches a static JSON file from our public GitHub Pages site (mealcurate.github.io) containing the curated recipe library. No personal information is sent — this is a plain anonymous file download.
- iCloud Sync (optional, off by default). If you enable iCloud Sync, your data syncs through your personal Apple iCloud account, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Smart meal suggestions, allergen filtering, and pantry-based recipe ranking all run entirely on your device.
3. Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your name, email address, or contact information (unless you contact us directly for support)
- Location data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
- Health data to any external server
4. iCloud Sync
If you choose to enable iCloud Sync, your meal plans, recipes, and other app data are synced through your personal Apple iCloud account. This data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. iCloud Sync is disabled by default.
5. Subscriptions & Payments
Pro subscriptions are processed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not receive or store your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID. Subscription management is handled by Apple. A future Meal Curate Premium tier (currently "Coming Soon" in the app) will be added under the same App Store billing model when it launches.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
All your data is stored on your device and/or iCloud account. You can delete your data at any time by:
- Deleting individual items within the app
- Deleting the app from your device (which removes all local data)
- Disabling iCloud Sync and removing app data from iCloud through your Apple ID settings
We do not retain any of your data on external servers.
7. Children's Privacy
Meal Curate is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
